Julia in The Collared Shirt and The Tailored Trousers
Julia Trotta is a New York-based art advisor and curator who has worked closely with artists, galleries, and non-profits for over 15 years. She currently works with the Bay Area collector and philanthropist Komal Shah at the Shah Garg Foundation, which was founded to celebrate and uplift women artists. Trotta has curated a number of exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad, including solo shows by the American painter Cynthia Hawkins and the German artist Ulrike Ottinger. She is also the director of the estate of her late grandmother, Linda Nochlin, the feminist art historian who wrote the 1971 rallying cry essay, “Why Are There No Great Women Artists?”
Below, she shares the special things on her wish list this season, from a limited-edition silk scarf to a fresh spring scent.
A Painterly Scarf
“I love this limited-edition scarf by the New York-based artist Monique Mouton. It's the next best thing to owning one of her paintings.” Monique Mouton Silk Scarf, $333
A Beautiful Art Book
"A ton of research and care went into this tome (it’s 460 pages) on the late, great, Japanese-American artist, Miyoko Ito. The book was just published earlier this year and it’s already a classic!" Miyoko Ito: Heart of Hearts; $75
A Fresh Scent
"All of the Régime des Fleurs perfumes are special, but I particularly love this one made in collaboration with Chloë Sevigny." Régime des Fleurs Fragrance, $250
A Novelty Pin
"This mermaid purse pin would be a great compliment to any Attersee look." Joanne Burke Gold-Plated Pin, $650
Colorful Underpinnings
"Araks is known for making lingerie in the most amazing selection of colors, like this deep 'root' red." Gita Underwire Bra, $160
An Embroidered Nightdress
"If we’ve been friends for a long time, chances are I’ve gifted you a nightgown. I used to walk down to Century 21 for a classic Laura Ashley or Eileen West, but now my go-to is Salter House." Sisters Nightdress, $88
